The Herd

Cherokee Valley Ranch has been family-owned for over 50 years. Owners Carie and Jarrod Starr purchased their first herd in 2008. Their number one priority was and still is to produce grass-fed bison for their family and community. They now keep over 45 bison and each spring are blessed with many ‘red dogs’ to keep the herd growing.

The Starrs believe in the sacred connection between Mother Earth and ourselves. Carie’s grandmother spent countless hours sharing tales of her Cherokee heritage, her love for nature, and philosophy of living a life the ‘natural way’ without herbicides but, most importantly, how it is our duty to act as stewards of the earth. Grandma Crandell’s wisdom stuck with Carie. She and Jarrod continue her grandmother’s sustainable practices today.

Whether you’re coming to purchase some of the finest bison and free-range chicken eggs, for a guided tour or to stay in our tipis, we look forward to sharing our little slice of paradise with you.

Our Bison are pasture raised and we ensure their health by rotating grazing fields through the summer months. During the winter months we provide additional nutrients through locally sourced hay. Our herd is never fattened with corn or grain.

NO growth hormones
NO antibiotics
NO weird stuff

Bison meat is a lean protein that is nutrient-dense and full of flavor. Rich in omega 3s, iron, and B12, while also low in cholesterol and calories, bison is a more sustaining protein.

Cherokee Ranch Bison products are flash-frozen and vacuum-sealed for freshness.
